Shelby is a pet parent, herself. She's had at least one dog by her side for as long as she can remember. Most days, you will find her with 2-3 tail waggers nearby. Having been a mom to little dogs (3 mini doxies, a Jack Russell, and a chiweenie), medium dogs (beagle & pit bull terrier), and even an extra large (a Boerbul + Great Dane mix), she's a firm believer that furry companions make the world a better place.

Hi! I'm Shelby.
The idea to start a poop scooping business came to me years ago, while living in the hills of Austin, Tx. At the time, I had Carnita, my potbelly pig, 3 dogs, a couple rabbits, and one cat (because who doesn’t?).
Aside from my indoor menagerie, I had deer. Every afternoon, just before sunset, 3-4 herds of deer would show up in my yard to snack on feed pellets and veggies. It was…magical.
Until they left, of course. As you can imagine, between dozens of deer, (a few less) bucks, one-150lb “mini” pig, and 3 dogs, there was a lot to pick up after!
While scanning my steeply sloped yard, I’d often wonder how someone with an injury or other special need(s) might perform this job. The thought actually worried me. Though I didn’t act on it right away, this is when the idea of pOOPScoops was born.
Shovel in one hand, bag-lined poop bucket in the other, I’d sometimes chuckle to myself, replaying something my dad would jokingly say to me as a kid: “You better pay attention is school, or you’ll be shovelin sh*t for a living!”.
Half smiling, I thought, “It may not be glamorous, but well worth it.” I’d happily scoop poop for the rest of my life if it meant that my clean lawn would serve as the foundation for creating some of the most amazing memories; moments like witnessing the birth of fawns in springtime and lounging on a picnic blanket with my pig as my pillow, while enjoying a nightly movie on my iPad, or quietly watching porcupines, owls, and skunks mosey by during the pandemic.
If my yard wasn’t meticulously scanned and cleaned on a daily basis, I’d have never experienced the fullness of the Hill Country like I did. I also never would’ve shared those countless hours of quality time with my sweet Carnita, who now resides up in Pig heaven.
My point here is: we all had a little bit more time during the pandemic to tend to the little things. At pOOPScoops, we understand that:
- life gets busy (just means you’re doing it right!)
- you love your fur babies to pieces
- not everyone has the time (or desire) to pick up after them.
- you want to maintain a beautiful & clean yard (to host your own priceless memories!)
There are many special needs pet owners who aren’t equipped to perform the meticulous job of cleaning up after their animals.
So, this is where the idea was born. It took some years until I developed the courage to follow through on it, but in early 2025, pOOPScoops became a reality.
